About chlamydia

One of the most common STIs in the UK, and one of the easiest to treat.

Symptoms
Most people notice nothing at all. When symptoms appear: unusual discharge, pain when peeing, burning or itching around the penis tip, bleeding between periods or after sex.

How it spreads
Through unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex, and shared sex toys. Condoms greatly reduce the risk.

Treatment
A 7-day doxycycline course clears it in the vast majority of cases. Partners need treating too, and no sex until 7 days after you both finish.

How it works

  2-minute consultation
Step 1
Complete a confidential online consultation. No video calls, no waiting rooms.
Step 2
A clinician reviews your answers, usually the same day.
Step 3
Treatment arrives at your door in plain packaging within 1 to 2 working days.

FAQs

What is chlamydia?
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection and one of the most common STIs in the UK, passed on through unprotected sex. It's easily treated with a short course of antibiotics, but left untreated it can affect your fertility.
What are the signs and symptoms?
Most people have no symptoms at all, which is why testing matters. When symptoms do appear:
In women
  • Unusual vaginal discharge
  • Pain or burning when peeing
  • Bleeding between periods or after sex
  • Lower tummy pain
In men
  • Discharge from the penis
  • Pain or burning when peeing
  • Pain or swelling in the testicles
Do I need a positive test before I can get treatment?
Yes. Treatment is for people who have tested positive, or whose recent partner has. If you haven't tested yet, our home test kit gives you a reliable answer discreetly.
How do I take doxycycline?
One 100mg capsule twice a day for 7 days, with food and a full glass of water. Stay upright for 30 minutes after each dose, and finish the whole course even if you feel fine.
Are there side effects I should know about?
Doxycycline can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so use sun protection during your course. Some people get mild nausea; taking it with food helps. It isn't suitable in pregnancy; our consultation checks this.
Does my partner need treatment too?
Yes. Current and recent partners should be tested and treated, even without symptoms, otherwise the infection can be passed straight back. Avoid sex until 7 days after you've both finished treatment.
Will my order and details stay private?
Completely. Your order arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing about the contents on the outside. Your consultation is confidential and never shared for marketing.
Do I need to retest after treatment?
Not usually, if you completed the full course and avoided sex for 7 days after. Retesting is recommended if you're under 25, symptoms persist, or you may have been re-exposed. Wait at least 3 weeks after finishing treatment to retest.
Is TribElle regulated?
Yes. TribElle is a UK-registered online pharmacy created for women, by women. All medicines are genuine, regulated treatments prescribed and dispensed by our clinical team.
